2011 Game Developers Conference

Trailer & walkthrough for Hysteria Project 2 (Mobile)

Bulkypix, the publishers of Hysteria Project and the newly released sequel, Hysteria Project 2, have released a walkthrough for their new game.

Hysteria Project 2 is a hardcore interactive movie that is also a 360° live-action, choose-your-own-adventure survival-horror game, with a Hitchcock feel thrown in for good measure. Hysteria Project 2 takes you on a hardcore ride where you are the hero of an entirely filmed adventure. Go prehistoric hunting with Carnivores: Ice Age (mobile)

Tatem Games has announced a sequel to their popular title, Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter. Carnivores: Ice Age will feature even more animals and more maps (as demanded by fans of the original game), and will challenge the player to hunt on a snowy planet inhabited by pre-historic animals.

Carnivores: Ice Age hits the AppStore in the end of January 2011 as a universal app supporting Retina graphics and offering Game Center integration, over 40 achievements, 5 locations, 12 animals and 100% explorable world.

Angry Birds spin-off, Angry Birds Rio, coming soon


Angry Birds, Rovio’s blockbuster smart phone and tablet game that has become a global cultural sensation, and Rio, an upcoming motion picture, are joining forces to create a new game, Angry Birds Rio. This union represents a first-of-its-kind game development partnership between Rovio and Twentieth Century Fox.  The announcement was made today by Mikael Hed, CEO at Rovio Mobile, which created Angry Birds, and Peter Levinsohn, president of new media and digital distribution for Twentieth Century Fox, which releases Rio in theatres on April 7.

This unique spin-off of Angry Birds will take flight around the world in March, coinciding with Rio’s gala world premiere event. The game launches with 45 dedicated levels and will regularly add new levels via app updates. It will be available for download on smart phones and tablets worldwide.

Introducing the PSP successor

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) today announced the Sony PlayStation successor code named the Next Generation Portable (NGP) and the Sony PlayStation experience, a games hub for android based devices.

PlayStation Suite which offers content PlayStation content for “various mobile devices” for Android based handsets and tablets where a library of older PlayStation Games will be available to download.

SCE didn’t announce pricing information the NGP device, NPG games or PlayStation Suite games but did state that release of the system is slated for the coming holiday season.

The device includes a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor,  a 5 inch 960×544 resolution OLED mutli-touch display, with a 5 inch touch panel on the back. Front and rear cameras are present, although what mega pixel quality was unspecified.  Connectivity included Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth 2.1, with GPS thrown in.

Controls are much better with the addition of two micro analog sticks which are positioned below other control inputs such as the D-Pad and action buttons. Six axis motion sensor is also makes an appearence.

Developers and publishers announced to be on-board are Activision, Q Entertainment, Ubisoft, Rockstar and Konami. Games and franchises announced were Japanese smash hit Monster Hunter 3, western crowd pleaser Uncharted, Killzone, WipeOut, Resistance, LittleBigPlanet, Hustle Kings and the monstrously successful Call of Duty franchise.

The NGP interface is called the LiveArea with bubble-like icons for game. trophies, friends, browser, PS store, photos, messages and near. Near will allow players to see what games are popular in the immediate area, high scores, and what friends are playing. Sony said that a goal for the future is to have a gamer play on PS3 and then continue the game on the NGP.

World’s best mobile phone games shortlisted

The nominees for the International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGAs) were announced today with 30 games in six categories being put forward for the final round of judging. 263 games from all over the world were submitted for review by the international panel of experts.  The winners in each category for this year’s awards will be announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.
