The global release timings for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora have been released by Ubisoft.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an upcoming open world action-adventure game set in the Avatar film series. Developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, this highly anticipated game is scheduled to release on December 7, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Story
In the game, players will take on the role of a Na’vi orphan who has been trained as a soldier by the Resources Development Administration (RDA). After waking up from suspended animation 15 years later, they must explore the Western Frontier of Pandora, rallying the local Na’vi tribes to fight against the RDA and protect the region’s natural resources.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is chiefly a first-person open world action-adventure game set on the alien planet of Pandora.
While played primarily from the first-person view, brief third-person segments will occur when interacting and taming certain native Pandoran creatures.
Players will be able to temporarily ride and utilize winged Ikran and floatstone-aided Zakru as means of aerial transportation to traverse the expansive open world, with the Ikran even providing assistance fending off RDA forces in aerial combat sequences.
Over the course of exploring the exotic landscapes, players can periodically take refuge within the Na’vi tribe’s colossal Hometree base to rest and further the story by conversing with key characters and learning more about Pandoran culture while housed within the expansive ancient tree.
But the majority of the gameplay will involve open world exploration, environmental traversal, resource gathering, stealth and action combat from the intimate first-person ground-level perspective against RDA soldiers and the many exotic beasts that fill the Pandoran frontier.
It will also apparently support 2-player cooperative multiplayer.
Flight Mechanics for Exploration
From feedback on early gameplay it seems as though the flight mechanic in the game is one of the stand out features.
The decision to include flight mechanics is particularly fitting for the world of Pandora. The dense jungles, diverse terrain, and vibrant flora and fauna depicted in the Avatar films provide a rich and visually stunning environment. Navigating such a world on foot or via traditional means of transportation, like horses, would not do justice to the beauty and complexity of the setting.
By offering flight as an alternative, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora maintains the density and richness of the environment while ensuring that travel remains smooth and enjoyable. It allows players to explore every nook and cranny of Pandora without the limitations of traditional traversal methods.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Platforms
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set to release exclusively on current generation consoles and PC, with no announced plans for last generation or Nintendo Switch support.
Specifically, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will launch on Amazon Luna, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC.
The PlayStation 5 version will include exclusive free access to the Aranahe Warrior Pack at launch.
Developer Ubisoft highlighted that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has been built from the ground up to leverage the power of new generation hardware, making ports to previous generation consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One highly unlikely.
