Dragon Age: Dreadwolf – Your Guide to the Next Epic Adventure

We played 100s of hours playing the older Dragon Age games – Origins and Inquisition – so have been understandably hanging out for any concrete news on the new version.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will be the next installment in BioWare’s acclaimed series, and details have been patchy to say the least. However, with the announcement of a full game reveal in Summer 2024, we thought it was time to revisit everything we know about the game, rumors and all.

A Tale of Betrayal and Redemption

Based on a BioWare book published in 2020 and an official blog post, it has been confirmed that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will be set in Tevinter, specifically in the city of Minrathous.

There are several intriguing rumors and theories about the story in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. The teaser trailer from The Game Awards 2018 hints at the return of Solas, the elven god of betrayal known as Fen’Harel or the Dread Wolf, who played a significant role in Dragon Age: Inquisition and its Trespasser DLC.

The trailer also prominently features a red lyrium idol, which has a history of causing corruption and madness in those who possess it, as seen in Dragon Age 2 with Bartrand and Meredith.

Fans speculate that Solas may attempt to use the idol’s power to further his plans, which were hinted at in Inquisition’s epilogue. The presence of red lyrium, known for its corrupting influence and its use by Corypheus in Inquisition, suggests that it will continue to play a major role in the upcoming game’s story.

Some fans have even delved deeper into the trailer’s symbolism, theorizing about the potential implications of the wolf beast and the elves depicted alongside the idol.

Will Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Have Multiplayer?

The short answer is no.

In a significant shift from earlier plans, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will focus solely on delivering an immersive single-player experience. According to reports from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, EA has decided to remove all multiplayer and live service elements from the game following the disappointing performance of Anthem.

This decision was reportedly influenced by the success of the single-player title Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which stood in stark contrast to Anthem’s critical and commercial struggles.

By concentrating their efforts on crafting a rich and engaging single-player campaign, BioWare aims to recapture the magic that made the Dragon Age series stand out from other RPGs.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Platforms and Release Date

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is likely to release on a range of platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While an exact release date has not been announced, BioWare has stated that the game is well into development and is targeting a release window in the near future.

In the meantime, they’ve announced a full reveal of the game which is expected to take place in Summer 2024. This event will likely showcase new locations, characters, and gameplay footage, giving us a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come.
