Starfield’s Steam Beta Now Available with Update 1.8.83

Bethesda has released a new beta update for Starfield on Steam, allowing PC players to test out new features and fixes before the wider release later this month. The Starfield Beta Update 1.8.83 went live on November 8, 2023 for Steam users to opt into.

DLSS Support and Performance Improvements

The key additions in this Starfield beta update are Nvidia DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) support, as well as general improvements and adjustments to in-game performance.

DLSS utilizes AI and deep learning to boost frame rates in games while maintaining image quality. Players with Nvidia RTX cards can enable DLSS in the Starfield graphics settings to gain significant performance benefits. This should help provide smoother gameplay on a wider range of PC hardware.

Alongside the DLSS implementation, Bethesda has also focused this update on addressing performance issues reported by players since Starfield’s launch on September 6, 2023. CPU and memory optimizations should translate into higher framerates and fewer drops.

Bug Fixes and Gameplay Adjustments

In addition to technical improvements, this beta update contains fixes for several quest bugs that have hindered progress for some players. Issues with getting stuck in certain missions or controversies not triggering properly should now be resolved.

Bethesda has also rebalanced some gameplay elements based on community feedback. Changes involve tweaks to enemy health, loot rewards, and mechanics like hacking and lockpicking to improve overall balance and feel.

Testing Ahead of Full Release

By opting into the beta branch on Steam, players can experience these changes and provide feedback to help polish the update before full release. Bethesda plans to launch the 1.8.83 update for all PC and Xbox platforms later in November 2023.

This beta gives the opportunity for additional testing and quality assurance. It also allows eager Starfield fans to check out new features like DLSS integration early before they hit the live version.

To access the beta on Steam, players can right click Starfield in their Library, go to Properties, click the Betas tab, then select the beta from the dropdown menu.

Keep an eye out for the full public release of Starfield Update 1.8.83 coming soon. The beta marks another step forward as Bethesda continues refining and expanding this massive sci-fi RPG universe.
