Alan Wake Brings His Supernatural Story to Dead by Daylight

The popular multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight is gaining an iconic new Survivor – Alan Wake. On January 30th, 2024, the novelist-turned-killer Alan Wake will enter the terrifying realm of The Entity as a playable character in Behavior Interactive’s acclaimed title. This exciting collaboration between Behavior and Remedy Entertainment brings together two thrilling horror universes.

Who is Alan Wake?

Alan Wake is the protagonist of the psychological action horror video game franchise of the same name, developed by Remedy Entertainment. The titular character is a bestselling horror writer suffering from writer’s block, who takes his wife Alice on a vacation to the sleepy Pacific Northwestern town of Bright Falls. After Alice mysteriously vanishes, Alan begins finding pages of a horror story he doesn’t remember writing that seem to be coming true around him. Trapped in a nightmarish reality of his own making, Alan must unravel the mystery and escape the darkness to save himself and his wife.

Enter The Fog

Now, Alan Wake finds himself entangled with The Entity of Dead by Daylight’s terrifying realm. As he searches desperately for a means of escape, he encounters familiar-yet-twisted beings from the stories of his past and the knife-wielding Killers hunting in The Fog. Alan must use all his wits and bravery if he hopes to see the light of day again.

Authentic Additions

A man in a suit is kneeling next to a supernatural skeleton in the woods.

To authentically bring the acclaimed novelist to Dead by Daylight’s roster of Survivors, Behavior has enlisted Alan Wake’s live-action portrayer Ilkka Villi to provide likeness while Matthew Porretta, the voice of Alan Wake throughout the game series, will lend his iconic vocals. Horror fans will be thrilled to truly step into the shoes of this legendary horror hero.

New Gamemode – Lights Out

Alongside Alan Wake, Behavior is introducing a bone-chilling new Modifier to keep Survivors on their toes. The “Lights Out” modifier periodically strips all Survivors of their items and abilities, drastically reducing their means to counter the Killers hunting them.

In the dark, a man in a suit brandishes an ax, evoking a chilling and supernatural story akin to Dead by Daylight or Alan Wake.

This new content adds welcome variety to Dead by Daylight’s selection of horror icons. Alan Wake joins characters from classic horror franchises like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Hellraiser and SAW as playable Survivors, facing off against the likes of Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Pyramid Head. Gear up for a fresh take on multiplayer horror when the Alan Wake chapter comes to Dead by Daylight on all supported platforms January 30th, 2024.

I've been playing games for pretty much as long as I can remember. There's about 15 years of gaming experience under my belt at this point. Destiny, Warframe, Halo, CoD and the list goes on. I was a brief world record holder for Destiny 2 speedrunning, as well as a season-long stint as a top 10 ranked PVP player. More recently, I've been shooting for the Celeste speedrun leaderboards. In-between sessions of getting too mad at shooters, I spend a lot of my time playing gacha games like Honkai Star Rail and Limbus Company.
